Underground mine and cave rescues leave little margin for error. Teams may have to reach an injured person through confined passages, steep gradients or vertical shafts while dealing with poor visibility, unstable ground, water and potentially hazardous atmospheres. PPE should be selected against the specific risks identified for the operation rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all kit.
