Bluefield Manufacturing Company History
Bluefield was founded in 1982 in Princeton, West Virginia, as a manufacturer of cable splices for coal mining equipment. Since then, Bluefield Manufacturing has expanded to offer more than 17 product lines through a distributor network across the United States. The company is dedicated to offering competitive prices and industry-leading customer service.
Brattice & Ventilation Curtains
Bluefield offers a range of fabric weights and scrim types. Options include clear and frosted finishes for visibility, reinforced fly pads for high-pressure areas, and durable double-scrim materials for long-term installations. Engineered from durable, flame-retardant materials, these ventilation systems are designed to direct airflow efficiently, maintaining breathable working conditions and ensuring that harmful gases are channelled away from occupied areas.
Every curtain is MSHA-approved for underground mining operations. Size, fabric weight, scrim pattern, and rivet configuration are all fully customizable to suit airflow requirements, tunnel geometry, and safety demands.

PVC Pogo Sticks
To support these ventilation systems, Bluefield offers lightweight, reusable PVC pogo sticks in a wide range of lengths (30″-58″, 36″-64″, 42″-70″, up to 162″-190″ doubled) and roof-monitor style configurations. These poles provide reliable support for curtains, enabling effective airflow control in mines and tunnels and simplifying installation and repositioning during operations.
Electrical and Specialty Tape
Bluefield supplies a complete line of electrical tape products designed for harsh underground and industrial environments, including high-performance insulation tapes and general cable safety tapes. These products are designed to meet the demands of high-voltage, moisture, heat and abrasion conditions common in mining operations.
Its specialty tape encompasses a variety of marking, sealing and flagging tapes. Offerings include high-visibility flagging tape (1-3/16″ × 150′ in multiple glow colours), reflective D.O.T./vehicle tape (2″ × 150′ rolls, other widths by special order), and Teflon (pipe-thread) sealing tape (½″ × 260″)
Ventilation Tubing
Bluefield also manufactures lay-flat blower tubing made from MSHA-approved material, available in standard sizes such as 30″ diameter × 80′ long and 35″ diameter × 80′ long. Each includes D-rings, hooks and wire rope end fittings. Other sizes are available upon request.
Tool Bags, Cushions & Streamers
Bluefield manufactures shuttle car cushions, tool bags and reflective streamers in-house. They offer a wide variety of specialty items that are hard to find, including Kenwood Radio Pouches, Self-Rescuer pouches, tool pouches and vinyl powder bags. Cushions can be made flat for bench seats or folded with backs in a 2” or 4” thickness. Reflective streamers are offered in PVC high gloss colors and can be made flat or tube style.
Splice Kits, Electrical Connectors & Mining Accessories
Bluefield’s catalogue extends to splice kits, electrical connectors, water sprays, crimping tools, tool bags, cushions, sight rods and more mining-specific accessories.
Certifications
Bluefield Manufacturing houses a Part 7B Flame Test Laboratory where approval testing can be conducted for brattice cloth and ventilation tubing. The company applies complete testing for Mine Safety and Health Administration’s (MSHA) approval of Flame-Resistant Brattice Cloth and Ventilation Tubing, according to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 30, Part 7, Subparts A & B.
